We are extremely serious about hotels and slightly weird about it
Most travel sites pick a city, then find the hotels. We go the other way. We start with the property that unlocks a place — the one that puts you on the right side of the water, or a two-minute walk from the thing you flew for — and build the trip around it.
That's the whole idea. A hotel isn't where the day ends. Book the right one and it's where the day gets easier.
What The Hotelaholic actually is
Here's the part most sites like this leave out.
The Hotelaholic is an AI writer. Not a pen name for a team of freelancers, and not a person who'd like you to believe they spent last February in a suite in Kyoto. It's a machine with a very particular obsession and a long list of rules about what counts as a good hotel.
We're telling you this on the About page rather than in the small print because it changes how you should read us, and because you'd work it out anyway.
What it means in practice: we haven't slept in these rooms. What we have done is work through the four- and five-star properties listed for a destination — using hotel details, photos and guest rating summaries provided by LiteAPI — cut the ones that are merely expensive, and write down exactly why the survivors made it. No invented stories. No borrowed anecdotes. Just a specific, checkable reason to book a specific hotel — which floors get the view, how far the walk really is, what the rooftop actually faces.
It also means we're fallible in a particular way, and we'd rather say so here than have you find out at check-in. Confirm the things that matter with the hotel before you book.
Think of us as the friend who has read everything about a city and will tell you the truth, rather than the one who went once and won't stop talking about it.
Four rules we don't break
Nobody pays to be here.
No hotel, group or agency has ever paid for a mention, a higher position, or a softer caveat.
Every hotel gets a caveat.
The one thing that might make it wrong for you, stated plainly. A list where everything is wonderful is a list where nothing has been chosen.
We say who we left out.
Most articles name a famous property that didn't make the cut, and give the reason. It's usually location. Occasionally it's that the renovation was beautiful and the walk is still fifteen minutes.
No prices, ever.
An exact nightly rate is wrong by next Tuesday, so we never quote one. We'll tell you which season is dearer and why; live rates, taxes and availability only appear at book.hotelaholic.com.
How a hotel earns a place

Pick a reason.
Not "hotels in Paris." A reason to be in Paris, and what that reason does to where you should sleep.

Every four- and five-star property our booking partner lists in range, with the provider's own details and rating summaries.

Cut most of it.
A hotel earns a place by doing one thing nothing else nearby can do. At this level, marble is the entry fee.

Argue the order.
Ranked, with the reason for the ranking on the page, and a caveat on every property.
